Birds, bats and other species to which the human intervention has stripped them of nesting grounds in their breeding habitat, and although they can nest in any place, we believe that they deserve to live in spaces with sufficient level of animal dignity, for the service they provide us.
Dignifying the life of birds and bats is to compensate them for the immense work they do for our wellbeing, because if they offer us a magnificent help in eliminating insects and rodents harmful to our own health and agricultural activities, what less than build house-nests of special protection as an amenity for the free services they provide us.

DEMA is an NGO that grows year after year with new research projects that benefit the most sensitive species. We innovate designs, improve the ones previously created and even use new concepts to accommodate them as special house-nests for birds.
We put feeling, sensitivity and animal soul in our work, because having a base on ethological principles, the main goal is to offer quality of life and an appropriate level of animal dignity, and we also use high performance, high quality and exclusively ecological material.
“Birds and bats deserve to live in spaces with sufficient level of animal dignity, for the service they provide us.”
Starting off with materials researched and developed by specialized technicians in the construction of human ecological buildings, we use sheets of expanded cork with mineral cement coating, both materials obtained in the natural environment of lime quarries and dehesas of cork oaks that give life to the magnificent and well preserved Mediterranean forest of the Iberian Peninsula.
The expanded cork agglomerate used is a product obtained through crushed cork that is bonded together by autoclaving with the natural resin of the cork oak bark (Quercus suber) called suberin. In this process, no type of chemicals is added.
The lime mortar is characterized by being hydrophobic and fireproof and at the same time acts as thermal and acoustic insulator. This material guarantees an optimal internal temperature and also hardens with the passage of time, converting the structure into a homogeneous and solid block. Unlike wood, its exterior does not allow parasites to lodge as the lime plaster prevents it. The material has been duly tested resulting in an excellent thermal, hydro and fireproofing properties, high level of hardness and great durability, which ensures perfect habitability conditions.
The aerodynamic ventilation system allows efficient air circulation in the interior of the houses, due to the strategic creation of updrafts that favour ventilation and oxygenation by pushing the hot air upwards and extricating it by chimneys and slots strategically located at the top of the walls of all the produced house models.

Unlike wood, this material prevents parasites from being lodged. After the plaster, a layer of lime paint can be applied inside, which acts as a fungicide, bactericide and insecticide.
House nest for Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni)
The cork and lime used are very light materials, giving the house very little weight, which eases its installation.
The cork’s durability is very long and can remain unchanged for at least 100 years. Also as its protected by the lime mortar this will increase its life. The applied lime mortar does not need maintenance and has a life cycle similar to that of any human building.
With each house nest under roof is always included an access tile, design specifically for the place and made in natural clay.
The access tile will be manufactured in a colour similar to the arabic tiles used in the roof where it will be instaled. It has a slight roughtness on the surface to accelerate the colonization by lichens and quickly mimic with the surrounding tiles.
